The quality of work life and burnout levels of nurses working in neonatal intensive care units

The Quality Of Work Life And Burnout Levels Of Nurses Working İn Neonatal İntensive Care Units. The study aimed at investigating the quality of work life and burn out levels of nurses working in neonatal intensive care units. 80 nurses working in a neonatal intensive care unit were included in the study. The Quality of Nursing Work Life Scale (QNWL) and The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were used during the investigation. The nurses work life quality level was not very high but above average. In our study the nurses quality work life was specified as 11.2% ''good'', 67.5% ''average'' and 21.2% as ''bad''. There was a significant relationship between "working conditions" which is the sub-dimension of the QNWL and having children (p=0.028). There was also a significant relationship between the nurses working hours and "work/working environment" which is the sub-dimension of the QNWL (p=0.036). The emotional burnout level and insensitivity level was average and the personal achievement level was high in the nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit. Emotional burnout levels of nurses working on shifts were significantly higher than those nurses working on a daily basis (p=0.047). There was a negative correlation between the nurses working hours and emotional burnout (p=0.025). There was a significantly negative correlation analysis between the nurses work life quality and burn out levels. There was no significant decline in the work quality of nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit. Having children and more working hours affected work life quality of the nurses negatively. Working conditions and working hours increases the burnout levels. A negative correlation was found between working hours and burnout levels.
