Abstract (EN)

When examined from the point of view of urban settlemens, cities are responsible for 75-80% of global energy consumption. Thus, they are clearly a milestone in the decrease of CO2 emissions. In the combat with climate change and transition to renewable energy, Covenant of Mayors (CoM) is a community with the greatest attendance network. This thesis examines the metropolitan and county municipalities which have prepared Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP). Furthermore, the calculation of CO2 emissions and the development of Photovoltaic (PV) solar energy generating projects fort he purpose of carbon reduction is aimed. Within the context of this thesis, 2017 corporate emissions of Bornova Municapality have been calculated according to CoM methodology based on WRI and ICLEI. CO2 emission of Bornova Municipality in 2017 is 8561 tons in total. In terms of mitigation strategy, the three buildings designed with the help of PVGIS programme have a PV solar energy potential of 380 kWp in total. It is estimated that these buildings will contribute to CO2 reduction by 316 tons per year.
