Social municipalism practices in the context of social policy in local governments: The case of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality

The purpose of this thesis is to discuss and examine the concept of social municipalism in the context of social policy in local governments. Social municipalism can be thought of as the planning and regulation of social policies of local governments. Especially Metropolitan Municipalities are responsible for important functions in the field of social policies. This thesis study consists of two parts as theoretical and application parts. In the application part, it is aimed to reveal the satisfaction levels of the students who benefit from the course centers established for exam preparation, which is one of the social municipal activities of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. Additionally, trying to raise awareness about these centers is among the other aims of the study. In the application part of the thesis study, data was tried to be obtained by questionnaire method. The population of the study consists of the students in the central districts of Mersin who benefit from the course centers established for exam preparation. SPSS 22 package program was used to analyze the data. In the light of the findings obtained from the study, the positive and negative opinions of the students who benefited from the course center regarding the operation of the course center were revealed and the current situation regarding the operation of the course centers was determined.
