Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, the post-disaster recovery process carried out in Yeşilyurt district of Malatya province, following the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, was analyzed from a geographical perspective. In the introduction part of the study, the geographical location and boundaries of Yeşilyurt district, which was selected as the research area, were defined and the purpose, importance, method and relevant literature of the research were presented in detail. In the second chapter, the theoretical framework is given. Concepts such as disaster, danger, risk, fragility and resilience were discussed and a conceptual infrastructure was created in the context of the historical development of the improvement process and the principle of building better. In the third chapter, the effects of the earthquake in Yesilyurt district were evaluated with their physical, social and economic dimensions, and the pre- and post-disaster processes were discussed comparatively. Its effects on democratic structure, land use, socioeconomic structure, settlement pattern, education, transportation, public spaces and cultural areas are detailed. These effects were analyzed supported by survey studies. In the fourth chapter, the success of the post-disaster recovery process is examined in terms of spatial and institutional aspects. In addition to spatial planning, zoning practices, reconstruction activities and institutional integration, psychosocial and social improvement steps are also included. In addition, within the scope of the economic revival process, the re-establishment of employment income sources, supports for the agriculture and food sector and risk transfer practices were evaluated. This study aimed to make a scientific contribution to post-disaster planning and response strategies by addressing the recovery process in Yeşilyurt district, which was seriously affected after the February 6 earthquakes, with a holistic geographical approach.
