The role of public education in meeting the educational needs of adults 'Esenler example'

Education is involved in every period of human life. Education is sometimes planned and optional, sometimes unplanned, regardless. When education in Turkey is divided into formal and informal, formal education continues as pre-school + 12 years of compulsory education, which is affiliated with the National Education, and then higher education. Informal education is optional and is provided with opportunities that are considered more flexible than formal education. When adults need education and want to meet this need outside of fields such as bachelor's, master's and doctorate, this can be met by attending private or foundation courses or by attending courses within Public Education. Public Education courses are places where adult education is provided in many branches with an official equivalent. This study was conducted to determine the educational needs of adult individuals living in Esenler District of Istanbul and to examine the role of Public Education activities carried out in the district in meeting these needs. For the research conducted in the 2023-2024 academic year, interviews were held with 20 trainees and instructors selected as a non-random sample from the Public Education courses held in the district, using a semi-structured interview form, and their opinions on the subject were obtained. After data collection, descriptive analysis was performed on the data obtained. According to the results of the research, adults living in the region benefit from courses run in partnership with the Municipality and Public Education in institutions in many neighborhoods of the district, to meet their educational needs. The general opinion of the participants was that they were satisfied with the courses. According to the data, meeting expectations, course efficiency, facilities and course diversity are among the reasons for individuals' satisfaction.
