Abstract (EN)

Optimal reactive power flow (ORPF) is an existing problem of power systems. The aim of ORPF is to supply the power which demand by the user by considering the physical constraints which exist in the system and to minimize the losses on transmission lines. The useage of high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems have become widespread by advancing technology and increasing customer demand. The solution of the problem becomes even more difficult by HVDC being included in transmission system. Due to the non-linearity and non-complexity of the problem, heuristic methods are used instead of the numerical methods. The results in literature show that heuristic methods are more successful than numerical methods (Iba, 1994; Eremia and Tawfeeq, 2014; Tawfeeq and Eremia, 2015). In this thesis, it is aimed to solve the power loss minimization problem of HVDC systems using hybrid algorithm. The hybrid algorithm is obtained by using artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm together. The hybrid algorithm has been tested in the modified IEEE 30 buses test system. To show the effectiveness of the algorithm in the solution of the problem, the obtained results were compared with the other results in the literature. Keywords: Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm, simulated annealing (SA) algorithm, hybrid algorithm, high voltage direct current (HVDC), optimal reactive power flow (ORPF).
