The impact of high technology export and innovation on employment: An application on Turkey

Developments in technology have been one of the most discussed topics in terms of economic growth and employment in the Industry 4.0 era in recent years. The dimension of competition has changed, competition is within the scope of production and export of high technology and development of innovation. The research aimed to reveal the impact of high technology exports and innovation on employment in Turkey for the 2007-2021 period. These relationships were examined with time series analyzes based on Türkiye. For this purpose, short- and long-term relationships as well as causality relationships between variables were investigated with the ARDL model. According to ARDL short-term forecast results, short-term statistically significant relationships were determined between Research and development, High technology exports, Economic growth and employment. While the existence of negative and significant relationships in the short term between research and development and high technology exports and employment was revealed, the existence of positive and significant relationships between the Education and Economic growth variables and employment was revealed. On the other hand, it has been determined that the error correction mechanism is valid in the model and that the shocks created by research and development, high technology exports, education and economic growth on employment will be balanced in the examined period.
