Abstract (EN)

As is known, the most important process step that increases the added value of textile products is finishing. One of the most important problems in terms of finishing processes in the processing of wool fibres originates from the dyeing step. Normally these fibres are dyed at the boiling temperature as a protein fibre. However, the dyeing conditions applied cause damage in various properties of these sensitive fibres (handle, strength-elasticity, luster, etc.). For this reason, it is necessary to dye the fibres under a milder condition (lower temperature and / or shorter time). In this case, however, there is a decline in the efficiency of dyeing. For this reason, it is important to establish a dyeing method which will ensure that the fibres are dyed under milder conditions without causing any adverse effect in the dyeing yield and fastnesses. A dyeing technique that has been intensively studied over recent years is the layer-by-layer coating method. Layer by layer dyeing method comprises the steps of treating the fabric with an oppositely charged (anionic) polyelectrolyte solution (anionic dye), removing the excess polymer solution by washing in a neutral solution, followed by treatment with a polycationic solution and rinsing and repeating these four-step processes many times. Since all these processes are done at room temperature and the fabric is open width, it can be said that the layer by layer dyeing method is expected to provide significant advantages over the dyeing in the form of ropes compared to the exhaust method at boiling temperature. Within the scope of the thesis, dyeing of untreated and treated (cationization, ozonation, cationization+ozonation) fabric samples were carried out by layer-by-layer method with a levelling acid dye and then the colour and fastness properties of the fabrics were investigated.
