Abstract (EN)
This doctoral thesis aims to answer the question: "How has the cultural and social life of the high SES Turkish families evolved and shaped after migrating from Turkey to Germany?". This thesis adopted a mixed research model. Qualitative research findings were prioritised and supported by quantitative data. Using Bourdieu's methodological approach and concepts, it was investigated if the habitus of high SES Turkish families living in Frankfurt and Berlin was shaped after they migrated to Germany and if there were any changes in their economic, cultural, and social capital. The reasons for immigration to Germany and emigration from Turkey were questioned. The effect of migration on roles within the family, the difficulties arising from cultural and linguistic differences in Germany, the happiness resulting from the lifestyle in Germany, and changes in consumption habits were examined. Changes in women's career and domestic responsibilities stemmed from migration, the formation of family dynamics within families with children losing childcare and homecare support they used to acquire in Turkey, the realisation of the value of being a family through loneliness, changes in living standards, the adopting new practices, such as shopping from second-hand markets in consumption habits, and acquiring new perspectives, such as pleasure with the calm life due to getting used to the culture in Germany, are among the critical findings of the research.
