It is known that there are nearly 200 hundred million disabled children on theworld and most of them are mentally disabled. In our country it hasn?t been seen anyresearch about the production of clothes that provides easy wearing to those mentallydisabled. Because of that for those who are mentally disabled tailor-made clothes areused or clothes that are bought from ready made clothes shops are modificatied. It?sbeen thought that by working on specially designed clothes that helps easy using andsatisfaction of need for dressing and undressing without others help, can helpmentally disablers to become socialized. Especially the lack of administrations thatdesigns clothes to mentally disablers those who have got problems in dressing andundressing, buttoning and unbuttoning, zipping and unzipping has occurred a need tothis study. This research is made to put out the problems of 104 (8-15 aged) mentallydisabled children in using clothes whose registered in Denizli city, Camlık primaryschool and professional education centre, Camlik autistic children education centreand Güzelyurt education practicing school and profession education centre. And alsothis research is made to put out how far the clothes that are made in ready madesector meet the needs of mentally disabled children. And the properties of the clothesthat mentally disablers can use, the preparation of design of clothes that is suitable touse and taken into consideration of the results of this study to determine how suitableare the clothes that is designed by researcher for disabled children. The general knowledge about the mentally disabled children and families thatis taken into research and the data that is obtained from questionnaire and questionform are all evaluated with percentage value. To evaluate the dressing ability andgeneral behaviour specialty from the research results of mentally disabled childrenthat are consist in research are entered in SPSS program. Dressing ability isevaluated in triple scale, always (4), sometimes (3), and never (2), unanswered (1)choice. The affect of gender, age and education period on children?s generalbehaviour specialty and dressing ability is evaluated by t test and variation analyze(one way ANOVA).To determine the importance level in two membered groups `t test?, in threeor more membered groups `one way variation analyze? (F test) is used. In thevariation analyze that is applied, in case the result is meaningful, LSD is used to findthe importance of the difference between groups. 0.05 is taken as the lowestmeaningful level. For those who don?t know the front and back of the clothes front and backcan be recognized are used, for those who don?t know straight and opposite side, clothes that both side can be used; and ornaments are used to differentiate the colour.Cuffs that are not needed to button or unbutton are designed for buttons that are infront of the shirt and at arm cuff. For those who have problem in zipping trousers big zippers, for those whocan?t button the button on the belt of zippy trousers, on belts big press button, tape orelastic belt is preferred. For the ones who can not collect their sleeves while havingtheir toilet needs, narrow cutting sleeves and big zipper slider which helps to zip andunzip is used. For mentally disabled girls who can not differ the back and front side of skirt, trimming materials and pocket is used. To take into consideration the ones who cannot button and unbutton the button on the skirt belt, modern ribbed waist skirt andplacket models designed. For those who can not tie their ribbon/tie without help it?sfitted to mount them on clothes. To taken into consideration of the mentally disablers that can not held a smallthing with his/her thumb and other fingers, it?s thought that alternative closingmaterials (button, tack button, hook and loop fastening tape, zipper slider, clip beltclasp) should be bigger size and clothes designed and it?s seen that they could usethese clothes easily
