Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyze the modern and postmodern social life styles of the Zygmunt Bauman within the frame of the concept of ambivalence. The concept of ambivalence comes to the meanings of ambiguity, multi-meanings, chaos and indefiniteness. The concept of ambivalence is important because it is opposite to the establishing order in the social life and provides the opportunity for evaluating the individual-social activities. A critical reading was made during the forming of this study in accordance with the texts of Zygmunt Bauman and other texts referred by these texts. In this context, first of all the relationship between the modernity and rationality was stressed on. In addition to this, the ?foreign? category which symbolizes the social alienation in Bauman?s texts was investigated and it was put forward that this category has become ineffective in the globalizing world or transformed into ?becoming nobody? process.Besides, it was stated that the expertise and consumption activities which provides rational solutions in freedom-safety and identity forming issues have brought the paradoxical process. Within this frame, the opportunity of the ethics of Bauman in the globalizing world was discussed. Finally, it was put forward that the ?becoming nobody? process and identity forming tools in the globalizing world have been articulated with the rational-capitalist paradigms and an ethics concept based on responsibility has no opportunity to grow in such a world and it was stated that there are theoretic-practical problems in the criticisms of sociology directed to rationalism and in the political structure of today?s world and it was stressed on that sociology has to focus on people deaths with rationality and ideological positioning.
