The influence of One Belt One Road project on supply chain management in the context of BTK railway line

In the context of supply chain, the two goals of the belt and road project stands out, such as ensuring barrier free trade and increasing the connectivity. Turkey, situated in the middle corridor of the project, is aiming to become a logistic hub by using its important location. Turkey is very eager to act as a bridge between Europe and Asia and it is among the first countries that expressed positive perspective toward the project. In this regard, Turkey has completed various infrastructure projects like Baku-Tbilisi Railway, Marmaray and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge for OBOR. These projects created new logistic connection modes by providing logistics integration. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizations to consider different routes in logistics. In this study, influence of OBOR project in context of BTK railway line has been searched and studied. As a result of this study, it has been understood that BTK opened new and alternative transportation routes, affecting transportation cost positively. It also provides a price advantage to Turkish exporters and importers.

Influence of RFID implementation for logistics management in pandemic era

In today's world, the importance of transaction speed, cost reduction and customer satisfaction is emphasized in every subset of supply chain management. In this direction, RFID applications show several times superiority in all statistics compared to barcodes and other old systems. RFID installations were not preferred because they seemed expensive at first. Over time, the experience on the implementation has revealed that RFID implementations prevent indirect damages, save time and reduce manpower costs. It has made product tracking very easy in warehouse management and transportation areas, which are subsets of supply chain management, and has contributed to the principle of transparency by allowing the end user to track and trace even before the product reaches his hands via mobile applications. It has reasonably reduced the risks of loss and theft in companies that make multimodal transportation at the global level, such as UPS, DHL, FedEx. Apart from these advantages, the quality of use is higher than the old systems. Product identification can be made from distances of 10 meters and above. Many details such as the product's origin, buyer information, product type and quantity are instantly reflected on the data screen. The fact that all these processes are carried out with computer support at this speed also reduces the cost of manpower and prevents errors that may occur by human hands. Especially during the pandemic era, its importance has increased even more as it eliminates human contact and infection.

Additional customs duty and non-tariff barriers in the international trade and their effects on Turkish foreign trade

Countries, being a part of international trade, try to increase their trade volumes through free trade agreements and customs unions, and they tend to reduce imports by using protectionist tools, especially in the last period. In world trade, along with the tariff measures mainly defined as the reduction of customs taxes, non-tariff measures such as anti-dumping practices, quotas, surveillance practices, technical standards are used to reduce imports. Turkey, whose foreign trade volume has increased since the 1980s, is among the countries that use these protectionist tools effectively. In addition to the non-tariff barriers, Turkey has started to apply Additional Customs Duty on the import of many different products as of 2011. This study tries to comprehend the effect of anti-dumping and Additional Customs Duty applied in Turkey by examining the process of global trade liberalisation and non-tariff measures in foreign trade. According to the analysis made using the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Trade, it has been found that anti-dumping measures have a more restrictive effect on imports than the Additional Customs Duty practices. In addition, the statistical data on the application of Additional Customs Duty show that the purpose of creating treasury income in the tax application stands out more than reducing imports.

The importance of e- commerce and logistics and market share in the process of globalization and impact on SMEs

E-commerce, which has a very important place today, is developing with the effect of globalization. It has come to the potential to enable companies with low shares to gain momentum suddenly. However, globalization has made e-commerce activities even more complex and has included elements that can make a difference in the value chain. The most prominent of these is logistics activities. It has been the logistics activities that ensure the good functioning of e-commerce and provide competitive power to the company. In this case, SMEs, which already have a small market share, should not lag the innovations brought by globalization to make their share from e-commerce sustainable

Global value chains and Turkish foreign trade

Turkey has experienced significant globalization through foreign trade since the 1980s. The globalization of trade is important in terms of economic developments in Turkey. In this context, the role and importance of the global value chain, which is one of the most popular concepts of recent years, in Turkish foreign trade is the central hypothesis of the study. In this study, the participation of Turkey and the BRIC countries in the global value chain has been calculated. Within the framework of the evaluation of the relevant literature and empirical calculations, we can say that although these countries have structural and historical differences, Turkey's participation in the global value chain converges with the values of the BRIC countries. However, since the 1980s, Turkey, with its structural current account deficit problem, has differed from these countries. In addition, according to our regression analysis, Turkey's increase in foreign trade participation positively affects GDP growth regardless of imports and exports.

Endüstri içi ticaret üzerine üç makale

This thesis analyzes how trade within industries corresponds with other economic indicators and its implications in the light of three different theoretical backgrounds and to conduct a deeper empirical study on this issue. In the thesis, firstly, the Environmental Kuznets Hypothesis has been studied to show the effects of trade inside an industry on the environment. We studied with 23 OECD countries from 1970 to 2019. The environmental impact of trade in the same industry is studied with income, energy use, government expenditures as well as expanded trade by long-run estimators. The study worked with mean group (MG), pooled mean group (PMG), common correlated effects mean group (CCEMG), and cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lag (CS-ARDL) estimators. According to the countryspecific CS-ARDL estimator, significant findings were found only in 6 countries and according to the PMG estimator for the panel, a U-shaped relationship was found. The study's most significant finding was that trading within an industry can slow down pollution. Throughout the second study, to reveal the terrorism-trade relationship through empirical studies, we ran a one-way gravity model with Turkey's 71 most exporting trading partners. We used information and communication technology (ICT) service exports per capita as a proxy variable for inter-industry trade in our model. We also used GDP and manufacturing industry similarities of the countries to reveal the terrorism-trade relationship. According to our findings, we concluded that Turkey is engaged in inter-industry trade when it comes to ICT service exports. We also found that terrorist incidents in Turkey negatively affect trade, but the occurrence of terrorism in the country of trade does not negatively affect exports. In addition to this, we have shown through econometric analysis that Turkey has intra-industry trade in terms of GDP and manufacturing industry similarities. In the third study, we conducted a sectoral and individual Smooth Adjustment Hypothesis (SAH) analysis using two different datasets. The research depends on the concept that employees who experience intra-industry trade will shift positions within the same sector and relocate to a new industry in the absence of it. To analyze this concept throughout 90 sectors, we used the system-generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator. Our findings helped us understand that trade within industries exists in all 90 sectors. The second study, utilizing TURKSTAT survey data, further supported intra-industry trade. The analysis with TURKSAT's survey data displays the effects of factors like inflation, age, marital status, education level, and gender. Keywords: Environmental Kuznets hypothesis, intra-industry trade, gravity model, smooth adjustment hypothesis

Ship investment strategies in fluctant shipping market condition: Turkey's perspective

Maritime transport has become the way of carrying the greatest amount of world trade, which has been the case in recent years. In maritime trade, ports are the most important points that logistics opens up to international routes. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development has developed the "Link to Regular Maritime Route Routes" in order to enhance the contribution of international ports to the development of the country's ports and to measure their links to major global maritime logistics networks in maritime trade. Regression analysis, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used to measure the relationship between this index and the "Economic Openness Index", which was developed to measure the economic vulnerability of the countries involved in global trade and which was obtained by calculating the total export, import and gross domestic product of countries. Analysis of results in improved maritime and gross domestic revenues of developing countries with a large share of Turkey's economy and examined the positions and strategies for the development of sea trade was aimed to determine. In addition to the general development of the country, it is predicted that maritime trade is one of the factors that will enable trade to be least influenced by the fluctuations in the global crisis and uncertainty period and this study aims to create a one-way model for the development of maritime logistics networks from every direction. Increasing port capacities and developing new logistic services for our students in line with the coastal structure of our country will be a bridge to provide a competitive advantage for our country in international global markets. In the near future, logistical networks, maritime and port development issues will be a requirement for the protection of our country's level of economic stability and prosperity in times of global crisis. Global success in this regard will be possible with a global strategy.

Comparative analysis of London and Istanbul real estate markets

Adaptation of sustainable e-commerce based on countries' income levels from the perspective of economic sustainable development goals

Sustainable E-Commerce Index (SECI) is introduced in this study, which was developed to measure the impact of e-commerce, among the three basic elements of sustainable development goals, the one related to the sustainable economy. The variables were chosen based on Endogenous Growth Theory (EGT), which highlights the importance of internal factors in sustaining economic growth. The SECI includes 33 indicators distributed across 12 dimensions addressing basic internal factors such as technological capacity, infrastructure strength, and economic stability. In this context, the SECI a comprehensive approach to measure the potential contribution of e-commerce to a sustainable economy. The SECI covers countries with different economic levels, emphasizing the differences provided by different income levels. The findings of the study clearly demonstrate that investments in logistics and technological infrastructure are of vital importance in ensuring the sustainable growth of e-commerce. In particular, the development and optimization of transportation networks, innovative distribution models and digital platforms stand out as key determinants in ensuring long-term competitiveness and operational efficiency in the field of e-commerce. In addition, the analyses show that national trade dynamics, information and communication technologies (ICT) capacity and prevalence, banking, internet access and income distribution, and various socio-economic indicators have multifaceted and significant effects on the performance and durability of e-commerce. These findings also reveal the need for a comprehensive policy approach that requires infrastructure investments to be addressed in an integrated manner with digitalization and social development strategies in order to fully benefit from the potential of sustainable e-commerce. Awareness of clean energy use in internationaltrade and logistics companies

This study examines the evolution of the awareness of the sectors that play an active role in the field of international trade and logistics, regarding the use of clean energy, from history to the 21st century, the applications used today and the dynamics shaped by political obligations, specifically in Turkey. Starting from the first purposes of using clean energy in history, the attitudes of companies in this field, the advantages and obstacles they face today are examined. In the study, it is observed that due to the increasing environmental impacts of fossil fuels and their exhaustibility, the trend towards renewable resources is gaining momentum and they are preferred as alternative energy solutions in logistics and international trade activities. It is seen that clean energy was first used together with sustainable energy sources such as water, wind and solar energy after the industrial revolution. The necessary details regarding the operation of sustainable resources are explained in the study. It is emphasized in this study that the reason for the transition to clean energy is not only the depletion of fossil fuels and the environmental pollution it causes, but also the political obligations brought by international agreements such as the Montenegro Agreement and the EU Green Deal direct companies to green transformation. The minimum training that logistics companies should provide to their employees regarding the use and awareness of clean energy is researched and mentioned.

Measuring service quality using servqual: An application of servqual in logistics sector

Today, the service sector is transforming with the rapid development of technology, globalization, communication and information resources, and therefore it's role is becoming more and more critical. Logistics sector has a bigger share day by day in meeting the needs of individuals and organizations. With the growth of the sector, the number of players increases and the conditions of competition becomes more challenging. It has become the focus of companies to differentiate under increasing competitive conditions, improve service quality and ensure customer, for this reason firms need to measure and evaluate the quality of their service levels. The characteristic of the concept of service is that, it is intangible, heterogeneous, inseparable, perishable. These characteristics create difficulties in measuring customer expectations and perceptions and thus the quality of the service. In this study, it is aimed to measure the quality of the service, the expectations of the customers who receive logistics services in Istanbul, and their perceptions about these services. The other purpose of the research is to analyze the effects of demographic features of the service provided, such as gender, age, education, service type and income status of the customers, on the customers' expectations and perceptions. In the study, the SERVQUAL scale, which is developed by A. Parasuraman, V.A. Zeithaml and L.L. Berry was used. In practice, 190 participants were surveyed. As a result of the analysis, the dimensions are listed as reliability, responsiveness, assurance, tangibles and emphathy values according to SERVQUAL scores. Based on the calculated SERVQUAL scores, the perceived quality is higher than the expected quality, indicating that the quality of service is high for our sample in Istanbul.

The low-cost carrier model in the Turkish aviation industry with Pegasus Airlines as a case study

The rapid development and competitive environment in the Turkish Civil Aviation sector began in 2003 with the adoption of a law allowing private airlines to make domestic flights. These developments were pioneered by the liberalization movement in 1983, the opening of new airports with the infrastructure works carried out in the 1990s and the introduction of private charter airlines. The Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) business model, which was trendy in the world in that period, began to be implemented in Turkey in 2005, after the liberalization of the domestic routes. The main principle in low-cost air transport is based on minimizing the costs of the airline and reflecting the prices of only mandatory products to its passengers, in order to offer the lowest possible price. The aim of this study is to examine the development of the Turkish civil aviation sector after 2003 and to reveal the contribution of the LCC business model to the industry, society and the country and to present the growth rate of LCC market shares. In this study, first, the development of the Turkish civil aviation industry and its evolution, especially after 2003, were examined. Then, traditional and LCC business models are examined and the differences between their applications are presented; Then, by conducting a case study with Pegasus Airlines, the characteristics of the Turkish LCC business model and the aspects affecting the competition were revealed. As a result of the study carried out, it was determined that the aviation industry started to develop rapidly after 2003 in Turkey and the market shares of LCC's were stealing from traditional airline market shares and growing faster than them.
