Examination of anxiety and depression levels of mothers with and without 0-3 month old babies with anomalies

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the anxiety and depression levels of mothers with and without 0-3 month old babies with anomalies. Material and Method: This research was conducted in a cross-sectional, descriptive, comparative and relationship-seeking design. Beck anxiety scale and Beck depression inventory were used to collect data. Number, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used in the analysis of descriptive data. Whether the scale scores and numerical variables showed normal distribution was examined using Kurtosis and Skewness. Chi-square test, Student's t test, simple linear multiple regression analysis were performed and the Backward method was used in the study. All findings were examined at the p<0.05 significance level. Results: It was determined that the BAI and BDI total score averages of mothers with babies with and without anomalies were statistically different between the groups. It was found that the BAI and BDI total mean scores of mothers with babies with anomalies were significantly higher than those of mothers with babies without anomalies. It was found that all BDI depression levels of mothers with babies with anomalies were in the severe depression category. Additionally, having a baby with an anomaly as a determinant of BDI was found to be statistically significant in the model. By removing other variables in this model, it was determined that the variable of having a baby with anomaly alone explained 55.7% of BDI. In addition, it was seen that all variables explained 54.1% of BDI. Conclusion: Mothers who have babies with anomalies go through a psychologically difficult process. Mothers need support in various areas to go through this process more easily.
