Investigation of reading beliefs of parents with 0-36 months child

While children learn some attitudes and behaviors spontaneously, they learn others by internalizing them under the guidance of their parents. Reading belief is a persistent behavioral experience that takes place under the guidance of parents. Parents become a role model in the formation of positive reading beliefs in children by providing various reading experiences to children. Parents' reading beliefs support the development of children's literacy and language skills. This research was conducted to determine the reading beliefs of parents with 0-36 months old children. The descriptive survey model, one of the general survey models, was used in the study. The population of the research consists of 204 parents (155-mother, 49-father) with children aged 0-36 months, who lived in a city center in the Central Anatolia Region between the years 2021-2022 and were determined by convenience sampling method. . As a data collection tool in the research; The "Parent Reading Belief Scale", originally called the Parent Reading Belief Inventory, developed by DeBaryshe and Binder (1994) and the "Parent-Child Demographic Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used. Descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Kruskal Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U values were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results obtained from the research; It has been observed that parents generally have high reading belief scores and have positive reading beliefs. In general, it was observed that there was no significant difference according to the age of the child, gender, birth order, the number of children of the parents and the age of the parents, but there was a significant difference according to the education level and income level. your parents.
