Abstract (EN)
With the increase in world trade volume, countries aim to increase their competitiveness in order to be successful in international competition. The concept of international competitiveness is discussed at the firm, industry and country level. The elements, determinants and measurement methods of competitiveness, which have become important for all economic units, have also been discussed by economists. Among the measurement methods developed on the concept of competitiveness, which is discussed at the micro and macro level, the Revealed Comparative Advantages approach, which was introduced by Balassa (1965) and developed by Vollrath (1991), is the most effective measurement method used by researchers in studies. Inter-industry trade, which is defined as foreign trade between dissimilar or different sectors, is one of the traditional classical foreign trade theories. The higher the difference between the development levels of the countries, the higher the level of inter-industry trade is expected. Intra-industry trade is when a country both exports and imports goods belonging to the same industry. It is a type of foreign trade that is based on the export and import of goods that are in the same industry group but show some differences in terms of appearance, quality, usage characteristics and brand. This study is based on Turkey's selected twenty-nine countries and SITC Rev. It aims to reveal the level of Intra-Industry Trade and whether it has a competitive advantage in the period covering the years 2000-2019 for fresh/dried fruits and nuts with a product code of 057 on a 3 basis, with the help of the Revealed Comparative Advantages (RCA) approach and other measurement methods. According to the results obtained in the application study, Turkey has a competitive advantage in terms of foreign trade data on fresh/dried fruits and nuts in the period covering the years 2000-2019. The level of intra-industry trade was realized as Inter Industrial Trade with nineteen of the twenty-nine selected countries. After the trade that started with an Inter Industrial Trade character in three of the remaining ten countries and an Intra Industrial Trade character in seven, it changed. Key Words: Competitiveness, intra-industry trade, revealed comparative advantages, fresh/dried fruits and nuts.
