Examination of 11-14 years old handball player?s reasons for starting sport and life satisfactions

The purpose of this study was to determine the reasons for starting sport and life satisfaction of secondary school handball players according to some variablesIn study, questionnaire form which consists of three parts, was used for collecting datas. It was composed of personal information form which consists of fourteen questions ın the first part, Life Satisfaction Scale which was adapted in Turkish by Yetim in 1993 in the second part and Participation Motivation Questionnaire which was adapted in Turkish by Mülazımoğlu, et al. in 2001 in the third part. For bilateral comparisions, in more than two groups comparisions Kruskal Wallis variance analysis, in bilateral comparisions Bonferroni Mann Whitney U tests were used in the study. Spearman Correlation analysis was done for the level of relationships between Participation Motivation Questionnaire and Life satisfaction.While study population was composed of 14 province of turkey from seven regions by taking two big cities from the each region, sample group was occurred with 350 girls and 350 boys in total 700 11-14 years old secondary student handball players. There were 11 ages 127(% 18,1), 12 ages 190 (%27,1), 13 ages 238 (% 34,0), 14 ages and above 145 (% 20,8) students in the study group. When we looked the education levels of the students, there was 223 (% 31,9) in the 6. class, 24 (% 34,4) in the 7. class and 236 (% 33,7) students in the 8. class. When the participating in sport subscale of 11-14 years old secondary school handballplayer?s was determine; sex, region, parent, education levels, number of siblings, job choice and income variables (p<0.05) were found significant. When distribution of life satisfaction scores was determined; Significance was observed in region, mother education level and income variables (p<0.05). When we determined relationships between the sport participation and life satisfaction, it was seen that there was negative and weak relationships on the all subscales.In conclusion, It was determined that primary school handball players participated in sports for entertainment, they had middle life satisfaction and the relationships between participating sport and life satisfaction was negative and weak. It was seen that despite the increasing in the life satisfaction, sport participating decreased.Keywords: Secondary School, Handball, Life Satisfaction, Sport Participation
