Institutional perspectives of USA and EU on terror in the aftermath of September 11

September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks are accepted as one of the most important events for the recent part of the world political history and also having a great part in shaping the recent world political system. These attacks are substantially important in becoming a base for the operations against Afghanistan and Iraq and especially American Foreign Policy orienting towards the Middle East. If it is looked from the point of EU, when they were advancing quickly on the way of becoming a union, however, after the terrorist attacks, they began to think some measures restricting the freedom.After the terrorist attacks in Madrid and London in 2004 and 2005, respectively it has been observed that Human Rights and the Freedom issues have been always at the forefront for EU but these have begun to lose in value in the face of Terrorism Phenomenon and as a result some restrictive practices against freedom have been carried out.Research problem of this study is; to evaluate the importance given by USA and EU to the Terrorism issue after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and, accordingly, their recently developed practices on this issue. In this context the main purposes of this study are as follows;a)How did the viewpoint, especially of USA, against terrorism change in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 and how did the effects of the change manifest itself?b)For EU, what kind of changes were introduced via these mentioned terrorists attacks, what has the standpoint of EU been against terrorism and what was changed in EU after these attacks?During the research, an extensive literature search was carried out and contemporary resources were used.
