Deniz ABİK September 2002, XHI + 455 pages This paper contains the names of artefacts in the Turkish texts written during eleventh century and earlier times, and the reflections of these names in varieties of Turkish spoken in Turkey and in the standard type of Turkish. The paper which is made up of four sections, is intented to reveal, with the help of written text, the cultural valves of Turkish societies living in the period in question, the course and conditons of change in these valves, production power of the society, to what extent they employed the Thurkish language in naming the objects they had made. The introductory paragraph tvier to evalvate people-culture-production-language relation from a historical point of view. In analysis section, artefact namer making up the bulk of our study that were found in the texts have been didvided into different cultural aveas as shown in the following and numerical information about the artefacts concerning each cultural area is given. In Conclution and Evalvation paragraphs, artefact names which have come into the dialects of Turkish spoken in Turkey and the standard Turkish are given numerically, generalinformation about the structure ofpure Turkish artefact names is given, and there is an evalvation according to these fundings. In the Index artefact names are listed in order of their frequency of use, the names are also arrenged alphabetically.
