Abstract (EN)
As it is known,In order to determine the state's revenue sources and reorder the Ottoman Empire tax system which had been begun to decay from the 18.century, a number of reforms were conducted in period of II. Mahmud. In this contextit was decidedfirstlyto determine thepopulationin thestate and a census was conducted in the whole country as the Sultan's order. In order tosee the reflection of this census at local level, as the subject of our research, we have decided to examine the Rize Population Book which is stored in the number Nfs. d 1143 in the Prime MinistryOttomanArchives. This bookcontains much information about Rize district in the period of the census such as male population, the names used by the public, physical properties of individual, disabilities of the people.
