Comparing the efficiancy of misoprostol in 12-30 weeks gestation termination with misoprostol+foley cathater and misoprostol+foley cathater+occitocin methods

The purpose of this study is, to compare the efficieacy of misoprostol alone or with other addictive methods for the termination of 12?30 weeks pregnancies and also compare these methods for their side effects and the duration of abortion. And at the end of this study, find the minimal side effected and short longed method and suggest it as a routine use.Our single centered study has done on the 112 patient between 12 and 30 weeks gestation whom pregnancies had to need termination because of fetal and maternal causes that applied University of Gaziantep Medical Faculty Obstetrics clinic since 01.01.2008. In the beginning of this study, these patients has divided into three groups, which each had at least 35 patients respectively, misoprostol alone, misoprostol+foley catheter, misoprostol+foley catheter+occitocin ( i.v. infusion) and occitocin ( i.v. infusion)+foley catheter. 2 ampuls (10 IU) of occitocin ( Snypitan®, Deva, İstanbul, Türkiye) has added in 1000 cc ringer lactat for the preaparation of intravenouse occitocin. And at every 30 minutes the dosage increased 2 IU/mn to the maximal dosage of 40 mIU/mn. Misoprostol has applied intravaginally to posterior fornix at every 4 hours and the maximum dosage was 6 dosage/day. The 16 no french foley catheter has chosen for this study. Catheter has located into cervix at the depth of 3-4 cm and inflated with %0,9 NaCl (1cc/gestation week) and strongly fixed to her leg. Bye the reaching to ideal cervical dilatation amniotomy has done to all tree groups.The groups of misoprostol + foley catheter and misoprostol + foley catheter + occitocin ( i.v. infusion) had statistically significant short termination time and needed less dosage of misoprostol when compared to misoprostol alone.But furher investigations didn?t suggest an statistically significant difference between the groups of misoprostol + foley catheter and misoprostol + foley catheter + occitocin ( i.v. infusion). And between these two groups there was no statistically significant difference in the hospitalization time and observed side effects.As a result, foley catheter + misoprostol can be used safely and effectively at 12?30 weeks gestation in the need of terapotic abortion.Key Words: Foley Catheter, Abortion, Misoprostol, Occitosin
