Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between sleep problems in children aged 12-36 months and the maladaptive schemas of their mothers. The sample of the study consisted of 153 mothers who had children between 12-36 months. The data collection tools of the study were "Sociodemographic Form", "Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire (BISQ)", "Mother to Infant Attachment Scale' and "Young Schema Questionnaire (Short) Form". For the analysis, IBM SPSS 25.0 package program was used. The score of scales and subscales and distribution of percentage, descriptive statistics, and frequency analysis were examined. For further analysis, independent samples t-test and analysis of variance were used to analyze the relationship between two normally distributed categories and to compare the means of four categories. The Pearson Correlation Analysis snd the Chi-Square test were used to examine the relationship between variables, and to examine the distribution of categorical variables. Sleep problems in the children were found to be related to the mothers' maladaptive schemas. Also, a relation was found between the mothers' maladaptive schemas and both pre-sleep routines of the children and the activities performed to help them get back to sleep when they woke up. It has been found that the maladaptive schemas in mothers, which are known to affect on children's emotional, behavioral and social development, are also associated with sleep problems. Future studies will help to understand the reasons for the relationship between sleep problems in children and maladaptive schemas in mothers.
