The political implications of the 12 September 1980 military coup process to the Erzincan local press (Öz Erzincan, Erzincan'in Sesi and Birlik newspapers)

The local press, which was effective in creating public opinion, publicizing the problems and publicizing the region; although it was born in a province, district or a certain region, it was the biggest source and basis of the national press. Thanks to the local press, we are aware of the country and the world agenda, as well as the economy, health, education, social and especially political characteristics of the region. The pressure experienced in every field during the 1980 military coup has made itself felt much in the field of the press, as well; the press was kept under control with censorship, closure and prohibitions. The press, which was heavily influenced by this printing environment, lost its neutrality and became the organ of the coup plotters. In this study, the political implications of the 12 September 1980 Military Coup Process to the Erzincan Local Press (Öz Erzincan, Erzincan'in Sesi and Birlik Newspapers) were emphasized. The first issue of Öz Erzincan, published on Thursday, April 2, 1953, contains 312 data for the period between January 1, 1980 and December 26, 1980; The issue of Erzincan'in Sesi newspaper, which started to be published on Monday, February 25, 1974, includes 235 issues with data for the period between January 1, 1980 and December 27, 1980; While it was published with the name of Firat on Monday, May 19, 1958, which was published under the name of Birlik from 8 August 1961 Tuesday, a total of 776 issues were examined, 229 of which were included in the data for the period between January 1, 1980 and September 30, 1980 of the Birlik newspaper. Daily, politically issued Öz Erzincan, Birlik and Erzincan'in Sesi newspapers united in October 1980 following economic difficulties and paper hikes, while the other two newspapers continued to be published weekly. The aim of this study; on the basis of the press-politics relationship, before and after the September 12, 1980 military coup, in Erzincan, operating in Erzincan Öz Erzincan, Erzincan'nin Sesi and Birlik newspaper to reveal the political reflections. For this purpose, all copies of 776 issues of these three newspapers published in Erzincan in 1980 during the coup process of September 12 were examined and compared with each other, and the reflections of the 9-month period before the coup and the 3-month period thereafter to Erzincan were tried to be revealed through document analysis.
