Evaluation of 12th grade students interest and attitudes toward modern Turkish and world history course

The aim of this study is to examine the interests and attitudes of 12th grade students toward Modern Turkish and World History course. In this study descriptive method was used. The research population of the study included students who were taking Modern Turkish and World History course at high schools in Sinop city. In this case, 86 secondary school students who were studying as 12th graders at social sciences departments in various program high schools were chosen as participants by using random sample choosing method. Questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used as data collection tools. In accordance with the purpose of this study, a questionnaire including 37 questions and a semi-structured interview forms including 8 questions were prepared. In this context the questionnaire was implemented with 86 students and the semi-structured interview was applied on 40 students. In the evaluation of the findings of the study, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) is used in analyzing statistical data. While assessing study data descriptive statistical methods are used. Also, in comparing quantitative data in the questionnaire Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis H-Test are used. In analyzing the findings of the interviews descriptive analysis was used and student answers are categorized according to their common or different properties. As a result of the study, the interest and attitudes of 12th grade students towards Modern Turkish and World History courses are at mid-range. It is also found that the students have positive attitudes and opinions regarding the benefits of Modern Turkish and World History courses.
