The occurrence and causes of crime in Syrian children between the ages of 13-18: The case of Gaziantep

The migration process has shown significant changes from ancient times to the present, and even recently, the number of immigrants has increased. Considering its causes and consequences in the social structure, the concept of migration constitutes an important social problem in all fields of social sciences, especially sociology. As well as being a source of social change, it is also considered as a result of social change. Similar to these changes, crime has also become a part of modern life, has developed and become a complex and growing problem. Although crime and criminal are expressed in laws, with regard to children, they differ in biological, sociological, psychological and pedagogical aspects. The aim of this study was to examine the reasons leading Syrian children living in Turkey to crime. Qualitative research methods were employed to answer the research question. The data of were collected using interview method. The participants of the study consisted of Syrian children who were dragged into crime and living in Gaziantep. In data analysis, Maxqda20 qualitative data analysis program was used. The findings revealed that the reasons leading children to crime were as follows: family-related factors, education-related factors, work-related factors, peer-related factors, migration-related factors, individual factors, and social media use.
