Abstract (EN)

There is no doubt that Şer?iyye registers which are local court records of Ottoman Empire are indispensable documents of our social, cultural and economic history as well as they are the most important resources of city historiography. Our study covers the first part of Şer?iyye registers numbered 149 containing one of these document dated 1294-1295 AH (1877-1878 AD) The transcription and evaluation of the first 150 pages of this book approximately consist of 300 pages was done. It is seen that the documents taking place in this part are related to the issues like heritage, divorce and demand of Mahr estate records, pecuniary causes, appointment of guardian and a Proxy, claim of alimony, animal burglary, physical injury and massacre. As a consequence, it was tried to determine Gaziantep?s social and economic status nearly one century ago. Furthermore, by collecting information about Muslim and non-Muslim people, information about how the demographic structure was obtained.Key Words: Şer`iyye Registers, Ayntâb, Charitable Foundation, Dowry, Verdict, Judicial Entitlement, Divider
