Perception of civil society-democracy in press after July 15 coup attempt

The July 15 military coup marked a new age in the perception of democracy in Turkey. I have analysed the democracy perception of the civil society in the news published after this date. The Turkish people, who have been confronted with the military coup d'état ever since, has been on the streets since the first hours of the coup attempt on July 15th. The squares have witnessed large crowds of people from all walks of life. The military coup started in Ankara and continued with the closing of the bridges in Istanbul. Other than these two cities, the putschists do not appear to be on the scene, but after the first hours of the coup attempt, people came to the streets all across Turkey. This great motivation for bringing people to the streets made it possible for them to stay in the streets with Democracy Watches for a month. In this study, the news in newspapers were scanned. Content analysis method was applied. The newspapers have been identified by taking their proportion of readers before the society. As a result of these studies, we have observed that such newspapers are unlike those which had been published after other coups. The newspapers have included the unfavourableness of the putschists and protection of the democracy by the gallant people.
