Abstract (EN)
In this study first of all, we tried to explain the Geographic Information System (GIS) in terms of the historical development, methodology and the components of the system. The aplication areas are expressed within the examples of maritima sector and navigation. Secondly, Kitab-i Bahriye a unique book of Piri Reis, which was prepared as a sea guide for naval men and presented to the Sultan of the period in 1526 was investigated again in terms of its' history, methodology and components. Lastly we tried to make a comparision of these two "GIS and Kitab-i Bahriye". As a result of this comparision, the information sets in the book and maps are presented in terms of geography and cartography.
