Abstract (EN)

Şer'iyye Registers are important sources for understanding the administrative, social, and economic structure in regional history studies of the Ottoman Empire. This study analyzes the 1690th Rodoscuk Şer'iyye Register, which covers the years 1194-1195 in the Islamic calendar (1780-1781 in the Gregorian calendar). The findings aim to provide an in-depth examination of daily life in Rodoscuk during the 18th century and to evaluate the social and economic structure of the period through a contemporary perspective, based on the historical data. The various dimensions of daily life are explored through public spaces such as the city, neighborhoods, and marketplaces, as well as private spaces like the home. The physical structures and usage patterns of these spaces are examined in detail, and their relationship with the social practices of individuals is analyzed from different perspectives. The findings indicate that Rodoscuk maintained its identity as an Ottoman town, and the way this identity was reflected in the daily life practices provides important insights. Furthermore, the study reveals the working routine of the Rodoscuk Court, the volume of daily business, the tempo of daily life, and interpersonal relationships, all of which are made clearer through the documents recorded in the register. In this context, it is demonstrated that courts were not only legal institutions but also played a significant role in shaping the social and economic life of the community. Another key aspect of the study is the detailed examination of family structure, economic conditions, household items, and economic activities in the city. These elements play a crucial role in understanding the social fabric and the dynamics of daily life in the region. In conclusion, the 1690th Rodoscuk Şer'iyye Register provides valuable data on the social, cultural, and economic structure of the region, enabling a comprehensive evaluation of Rodoscuk. The study contributes to a better understanding of both the local administrative structure of the time and the broader patterns of social life in the community.
