Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the early maladaptive schemas and childhood traumas of young adults between the ages of 18-30, and the early maladaptive schemas and childhood traumas of their mothers. Since there is no study in the literature that directly examines whether early maladaptive schemas and childhood traumas of young adults and their mothers are similar, this research has the value of originality. It is hoped that it will contribute to science and society with the new findings it will add to the literature. It is expected that the research sample will be 250 women, men and other young adults aged 18-30, and 500 people who are mothers of these individuals. Participants will be determined by simple random sampling method, scales and forms to be used in the research will be sent to the participants online. Personal information form, Young Schema Scale (YSH) and Childhood Trauma Scale will be used in the research. The forms and scales will be applied to both young adults and their mothers. Schemas are defined as life-long repetitive patterns or patterns that develop during childhood and adolescence, consist of memories, senses, cognitions and bodily sensations of the individual, are non-functional, negatively affect one's self-perception and relationships (Young et al., 2003). The Young Schema Scale (YSS) will be used to analyze the early maladaptive schemas of young adults and their mothers participating in the research and to understand the relationship between them. This scale was developed by Young. The validity and reliability study was carried out by Soygüt, Karaosmanoğlu and Çakır in Turkey in 2008. It is known that individuals who are exposed to emotional, physical and sexual negative experiences and neglect in childhood are at high risk for many psychiatric disorders in adolescence and adulthood. It has been revealed that apart from childhood traumas and psychiatric disorders, it determines many life-long health variables. (Sar et al., 2012). It has been proven by research that traumas experienced in childhood are more effective predictors of the development of post-traumatic stress disorder than traumatic events experienced in adulthood (Davies-Netzley et al., 1996; Neria et al., 2002). In the study, Bersstein et al. The Childhood Trauma Scale (CTQ), developed by It was concluded that the Turkish version of the Childhood Traumas Scale is valid and reliable, as a result of the study conducted by Şar, Öztürk, and İkikardeş in 2012. It is thought that analyzing whether there is a significant relationship between the schemas of young adults and their mothers and childhood traumas is important in order to prevent negative consequences that may occur. The hypotheses of this research are as follows; H1: There is a significant and positive relationship between early maladaptive schemas of young adults and their mothers. H2: There is a significant and positive relationship between childhood traumas of young adults and their mothers. H3: Early maladaptive schemas and childhood traumas can vary according to sociodemographic characteristics.
