Abstract (EN)
When the innovative Sultan Mahmud II ascended the throne, he began to implement reforms in many areas in order to halt the decline of the Ottoman Empire and restore the state to its former glory. With the abolition of the Janissary Corps, it was decided to conduct a census to meet the military needs of the newly established army and to identify the tax-paying population. For this purpose, a regional census was conducted in Istanbul. Subsequently, censuses were conducted throughout the country. In this study, the "1836 Population Register of the Posof Sanjak of the Çıldır Province" was analyzed and transcribed. The population register was examined, and tables regarding the age ranges of the population counted, the kinship ties of those living in households, official and religious titles in villages, etc. were created and analyzed.
