Abstract (EN)

In the process leading to the First World War, the imperialist states, which pursued expansionist policies, turned their interest to the Caucasus especially in search of raw materials and new markets. In our thesis, one of the most important parts of the war, Germany's Eastern Politics (Orient Policy) in Iran, especially in the territory of South Azerbaijan policy is discussed. Before being active in Iranian politics, Germany tried to gain a place in this land by engaging in social, economic and cultural activities. Germany also tried to gain a place among the tribes and minorities by sending many spies to the region in order to be effective in the politics of the war. In our thesis, studies on these subjects are also included. In the context of Germany's goal of becoming a World Power, the Orient policy was based on stopping the Russians in the Caucasus and the British in India. In line with this objective, Iran constitutes a bridge for Germany due to its location. While implementing Iranian policy, it has been a part of this policy to take advantage of the relations it had established with the Ottoman Empire. Germany tried to form the Turkish Union and the Islamic Union between Muslim Turks and other Muslim nations. The German army, as well as the Ottoman army, were involved in provoking and revolting the peoples of the Caucasus and Southern Azerbaijan against the occupying states. The wars and activities of these armies, especially in the territory of South Azerbaijan, formed the basis of Germany's Iranian policy during the First World War. In our study, the Oriental Policy of Germany was examined and the response to the effects of South Azerbaijan was sought. Key Words: World War I, Germany, Southern Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Ottoman Empire, Caucasus, England, Russia.
