Abstract (EN)

Starting with Western Europe, modernism created important notions such as industrialization, democratization and urbanization with new social movements and influenced many disciplines. Modernity, which has influenced the whole world with the Industrial Revolution, has caused radical changes in political, socio-cultural and economic dynamics in the cities where it spread. Also, in Turkey, the establishment of the Republic in the historical process and changing dynamics of the country also has the strongest effects on the discipline of architecture. Although the effects and reflections of the modernization movement in the discipline of architecture have been examined in many different studies through the actors and products in the history of Turkish architecture, there are very few studies on the architects of İzmir within this literature. Among these, there was no comprehensive research on Fahri Nişli, one of the prominent names among the few architectural offices that architectural practices in the city in the 1950s. In this context, within improvement of the modern architecture, the main axis of the study is the architecture of the architect Fahri Nişli, who shaped the repertoire of İzmir architecture between 1950 and 1980 and was able to produce important products. As a result of a monographic inventory study related to the architect, a typographic / morphological reading was made with schematic analyzes; In this respect, the aim was to determine the original architectural approach of the architect on national scale and within İzmir architecture. The architectural production between the years 1944-1992, in which the architect continued his active career, was analyzed and categorized three main periods; the selected buildings are categorized according to periods and examined in detail according to three main parameters: building mass (design, occupancy-space ratio), plan scheme (interior, etc.) and façade language (detail, material, etc.). The documentation and evaluation of Fahri Nişli, who contributed significantly to the formation of the modern city identity of İzmir and played a role in the creation of the modern architecture repertoire in the city, is expected to be the source for future research and studies within this scope.
