In this thesis, the effect of visual art and design trends on music record album covers between 1950 and 1980 were investigated. Also the ways how these results could be integrated in graphics education are shown.Moreover, it was aimed to form a database to help creating compositions in designing music album covers and to help graphic design education students in package graphic studies in relation with visual art and design trends.Besides others, following references were used also to determine that samples chosen in this study had been reached to the audience and had been original designs in their own sorts.1. The history of popular music, 1890-1954 (ISBN: 0-89820-083-0)2. Best album and best single charts by decade between 1950 and 1999according to Billboard magazine. Billboard magazine is basically devotedto music industry since 1894 and is accepted as a standard internationalmeasure for ranking songs, albums and artists around the world.3. The Greatest Album Covers of All Time (ISBN: 1843403013)Music album cover designs presented to the audience listening to main music sorts between 1950 and 1980 have been observed to have the distinctive characteristics such as image, configuration and color matching with the audience that it has been represented to.It has been concluded that, between 1950 and 1980, music album cover designers had used the style and forms of visual art and design trends of the time and, the designs that had reached to the audience had been in accordance with the visual culture of the same audience.It has been suggested that music album cover designs released between 1950 and 1980, should be studied at the schools of graphic education - particularly in lectures of publishing design, in comparison with visual art and design trends.
