A General review of the development of the typographic design in Turkey after 50`s

ABSTRACT This research named "A general review of the development of the typographic design in Turkey after 50's" consists of four main chapters. In the first chapter, that has entrance characteristic in the same time, typography was shortly defined and after this, was tried to transfer the changes in social, cultural and artistic field in the world after The Industrial Revolution. Afterwards typographical expressive stiles developed after 50's were examined. The second chapter is about forming and developing of typographic design in Turkey. After examination of typographic design in Turkey before and after Republic, the main thoughts and ideas about graphic and typographic design in Turkey were transmitted. The following chapter is about typography in Turkey in period between 50's and 80's. Social, cultural conditions, and general typographic characteristics of the time takes place in the chapter. In this period graphic stopped to be art and became design, and in the same time writing stopped to be calligraphy and became typography. The developments in economy and printing techniques caused by the countries social and politic changes; the art and design styles in the world and reflections of all these changes in Turkey were inevitable. The new communication environment that came into existence with technical developments, conditions and production techniques was changed after 80's. All of them take place in fourth and last chapter. The post-modem tendencies seemed in the world, their effects over design, avant-garde agents and design examples can be seen in our country. At the and, the last step of graphic and typographic design in Turkey was pointed out. Because of the topic of research is "A general review of the development at the typographic design in Turkey after 50's", the processed subjects in this study were enriched with photographic examples.
