National theatre arguements about critics of Turkish theatre since 1960

ABSTRACTTurkish Theatre, has been influenced by the West since the Tanzimat Reform Era till today and forced to make a choice between the traditional and modern style. Some of the intellectuals suggested it is necessary to make use of traditional values and to protect the art of ?in today?s terms: The Traditional Turkish Theater. On the other hand, the rest of the intellectuals adopted the western style theater ever since the same era. Even today, the Turkish theater is still under the influence of these arguments and the tension of these arguments.By the era `1960?, the new political and social structure influenced the art also, and thoughts and attempts to establish a National Theater was brought to agenda. This kind of conception had also seen at the Tanzimat Reform Era, which was the core of this argument, and these conflicts of ideas reflected also at literature.The renewal with the establishment of Republic, made the theater change its shell. As at all stages, it got changed in manner of criticism also, and the concepts such as the critic, the function of theater etc. has begun to be discussed with specific terms of theater.This study aims to give an oppurtinity to see the alteration within the theater criticism, the nationalization process ant the concept national theater within all this historical course from the critics? point of view.
