Habitus of rock-metal musıcıans of the 1980s and 1990s (Istanbul sample)

The music field is shaped based on the political, economic, social, cultural, and artistic fields from the past to the present, showing a very fragile structure at the point of establishing its own autonomy. For this reason, following the evolutionary process of the music field in a country is very guiding in terms of understanding and describing the changes and transformations that are taking place in other areas of that country. Therefore, this study traces the ways in which rock-metal music born in the West is experienced in Turkey, while in the background, it takes a picture of part of the socio-historical background of the country. This research initially followed the evolution of Rock'n Roll, a type of music imported from outside in Turkey in the 1950s and 1960s, and subsequent rock music into Anatolian pop-rock music within the context of localization as a result of the political, economic, social, and cultural conditions of the relevant period. Then, by the 1980s, the military coup process and the subsequent Ozal government's political and economic decisions were analyzed with regards to the country's efforts to integrate into the world in all aspects, but the study mainly attempted to understand the habitus of the rock-metal music field and its activists, which began to be established in the 1980s in Istanbul and entered the process of change in the 1990s. Therefore, while creating the analysis framework of the study in this kind of understanding effort, in-depth interviews were carried out through the semi-structured questions, in the light of Bourdieu's concepts, based on the testimonies of fifteen participants in the rock-metal music field in Istanbul during the relevant period.
