Cultural identity analysis after 1980 on contenporary Turkish art

This reseearch, analyses the culture-cultural identity development of the yearsafter 1980 in Turkey through the Turkish contemporary art and artists. The variableswhich forms the culture and cultural identity in our country constitute with the aidsof economical and social inputs in historical development. In arts after 1980; it isespecially mentioned on the artists considering the concepts about culture, culturalidentity. However, in contemporary arts; the interrogation and the assimilation of theartists of their own cultural identity and assimilation of the culture form of thesociety they live in analysed. The contemporary artists? contribution to the TurkishContemporary Art is analysed.By examining the concepts culture, cultural identity and culture-art, the mainfactors effecting forming of the cultural identity are considered. Cultural traditionsand cultural identitiy of individuals formed by the cause of reflection of culture areshaped by the effect of their age. At this point, stages of art?s forming, consideredfrom the historical view; they dwelt on the developments which are reflected aschanges to the other age. Our republic is the starting point of new ideas; importantchanges in public?s traditional form to the contemporaneousness and cultural identityform open to the renewal and changes.After 1980, with the reaction to the artificial cultures formed by the effect ofcapitalism and universal culture with the globalism, we have analysed the universalworks which transforms the past culture accumulation to the today? contemporaryview. The artists? works which reflects their cultural inheritance, age she/he is livingin and questioning his/her cultural identity are also analysed.The research dwells on the artists worked between 1980-2006 and theirWorks on culture, cultural identity.For this research which is qualitative, literature scanning is done.Key words: culture, cultural identity, contemporary art
