Masculinity in Turkish short story after 1980

This thesis investigates a selected list of Turkish stories from a variety of authors such as Cemil Kavukçu, Ayfer Tunç, Murathan Mungan, Nalan Barbarosoğlu, Hasan Ali Toptaş, Emrah Serbes and Murat Uyurkulak within the theoretical framework of masculinity studies. The first part of our study focuses on discussions on gender, particularly masculinity, from a historical perspective which deals with the development of masculinity as a field of critical study after 1980 in relation to the development of critical studies both abroad and in Turkey. The second part of our study presents an analysis of short stories from CemilKavukçu, Ayfer Tunç, Murathan Mungan, Nalan Barbarosoğlu, Hasan Ali Toptaş, Emrah Serbes and Murat Uyurkulak in order to provide an insight into the reflections of different aspects of masculinity like paternal masculinity, authoritarian masculinity, hegemonic masculinity, submissive masculinity, aggressive masculinity, neoliberal masculinity, melancholic masculinity, bruised masculinity, homophobia and homosexual masculinity as well as traumas that extends the scope of masculinity into subalternity.
