Abstract (EN)

In this study, Mehmet Basbug was selected from contemporary artists and his paintings were explicated in the context of Figurative Tendencies in Turkish Art after 1980. The aim of this study is to interpret the development process by considering the beginning of the Figurative Turkish Painting, its history, the areas of influence, the technical process and the social, cultural and economic variables affecting this process, and also Mehmet Başbuğ's art, which produces important works in the understanding of figurative painting in Turkish Art. The post-1980 is a productive period in which many creative areas are opened in Turkish Art. In this context, many painters, from 1980 onwards, draw attention with their figurative works and important exhibition and art events were organized in same period. The selection exemplified in the context of this study is a small representation of this rich heritage. However, in this process, it is particularly important to emphasize and study Mehmet Başbuğ's life, art scene, technique, subject selection, attitude and stylistic features which are taken as a subject here, in this study, with his selected works beside other artists with their work and period.
