Abstract (EN)

One of the aims of modern education is to raise individuals who think, critisize, inquire and are open to innovations. Reading is to give conpetence of thinking of the world, and people in different way. Reading is not only to spend spare time, but also it an active and fascinating process in which reader alsı takes part. One of the basic aims and functions of children?s literature is to provide children?s being a successful literature reader. The thesis began with these thoughts is completed in the name of ?A research about fantastic and science-fiction novels in children?s literature between 1990-2008?.The purpose of this study is to research science-fiction and fantastic novels at childrens literature 1990 to 2008. During that period 39 authors? 71 works were selected as the sample of research. Fantastic and secience-fiction types of novels were chosen for he sample. In our study the definition and history of fantastic and secience-fiction were sperately explained. A chronology of the major dates and works were created for both types. Then differances which seperates the two types were discussed. In our thesis, which age groups can begin to read these novels are described based on scientific roots. Works were evaluated as the format and content.The main purpose and function of childrens literature is to bring children up as a good reader. The products of children literature in Turkey remains behind the media. To keep the children away from the book of the media, we must present the novels in childrens literature as cartoons. In addition to examine 71 fantastic and science-fiction novels, this study may seen as guide for teachers who wants to give children the habbit of reading. Prospective teachers and parents are required to choose the rigt novels and develop a great interest on children for reading.
