An analysis of the Chinese-American relations after 1990 according to the "Power transition" approach

In this thesis, post-cold war China-USA relations are discussed within the framework of power transition theory. The China-USA relationship is perceived as the relationship between two great powers. Organski's power transition theory enables analyzing relations between the USA, considered the hegemonic power, and China, its most important rival. The rise of China is related to its industrial development. Due to the rise of China in the international system, there have been problems in relations with the USA and Western countries. Among the developing countries in the international system, China is by far the most important country in terms of economy. For this reason, China has become the carrier and guide of the new world in the international system. China's global and regional trade competitiveness is increasing thanks to advantages such as its educated workforce, technological and infrastructure investments, and its share in world trade rapidly. It is understood from historical data that this rise of China is perceived as a threat by the USA, which is the hegemon in the international system, and various sanctions are imposed as a result. This study discusses whether there will be a power transition from the USA to China and whether this transition will be through war or peace. As a result, if this advancement in China continues, a power transition from the USA to China will likely occur.
