Investigation of efficiency of state universities founded in 1992 through data envelopment analysis (DEA)

It is gradually getting harder to attain competition power in a world that is rapidly changing and developing. Although attaining competition power looks related to the basic principles of economy and the financial competition power, it is mostly dependent on training the human capital qualified to compete. Human capital can be obtained through training the individuals who are enterprising, independent, responsible and innovative that will play a role in the development and progress of the society in the long run. This acquisition is only possible through education.The swift changes experienced in the production techniques have underlined the need to focus more on education and to invest more on information and progress. The underlying fact of the human capital concept, which is accepted as the key to achieving superiority in competition and success in development, lies in its effective and efficient use. It is possible to content that education not only provides personal development but brings economic and social development with it as well.In this research, efficiency analysis for the period of 2004-2008 for 22 universities founded in 1992 was undertaken through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) which is an often utilized method in such analyses. The study aims to measure the relative efficiency of the universities founded in the same period and provide suggestions in the field.Key words: Effectiveness, Education, Data Envelopment Analysis
