The addition products of beta-methyl-beta-nitrostyrene derivatives with 2-mercoptomethylbenzimidazola and their biological activities

As a continuation of the previous studies of our research group some new compounds at the structure of 2-[(2-nitro-l-phenylpropyl) thiomethyl] benzimidazole 3 have been synthesized deriving by the addition of 2- mercaptomethylbenzimidazoles on the active double bond of 3-methyl-P- nitrostyren derivatives of which the antibacterial and antifungal activities have been examined throughly before. The structures of the synthesized compounds 3 have been elucidated by using IR, NMR, Mass spectrometry and Elemental Analysis methods. R= 4-H, 4-C1, 4-N02, 4-CH3, 4-OCH3, 4-OH, 3-0CH3, 4-OC2H5, 4-N(CH3)2,4-Br. The antibacterial activities of P-methyl-P-nitrostyren 2 and compound 3 derivatives against Gram (+) (S. aureus, S. feacelis) and Gram (-) (E. Coli, P. aeruginosa) and antifungal activities against C. albicans, C. parapsilosis have been determined. Ampicillin trihydrate and Oxyconazol nitrate have been used as standard comparison material. Compound 3 derivatives exhibit antibacterial activity comparable with Ampicillin trihydrate and Compound 2 derivatives exhibit antifungal activity comparable with Oxyconazol nitrate.
