The effect of ten-week exercise programs on bone turn-over markers and bone mineral density in men aged 20-40 years

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of ten-week exercise programs on the body composition, MaxVO2 and Beta Cross Laps, PINP, ALP, BAP, the markers of bone turn over markers and bone mineral density in men aged 20-40 years. Methods: Thirty seven healthy sedentary men aged 20-40 years and living in Manisa region participated in the study and were divided into two groups as exercise group (EG; n=19) and control group (CG; n= 18). Exercise groups jogged for ten weeks, three days per week from 20 min per day steadily increasing up to 28 minutes. EG jogged and power training at the intensity of 60% maximal heart rate reserve (HRRmax) for 20, 20, 22, 22 and 24 minutes for the first five weeks. They jogged for 24, 26, 26, 28 and 28 minutes at the intensity of 70% HRRmax for the second five weeks. Results: They jogged for 24, 26, 26, 28 and 28 minutes at the intensity of 70% HRRmax for the second five weeks. Body composition, MaxVO2, Beta Cross Laps, PINP, ALP, BALP and bone mineral density levels of all participants were measured before and after the study. At the end of the 10-week training programs, more significant changes were observed in body composition measurements (body weight, lean body weight, body fat percent, fat weight, body mass index) and MaxVO2 in BWG. Conclusion: Although it is not statiscally meaningful, there is some increase in PINP which is a marker of bone formation and some decrease in CTx which is a marker of bone resorption. It can be suggested that the increase in BALP fermur length and total scores(DEXA) and the exercises we did have positive effects on KMY and therefore they have protective effects from osteoreposis. Moreover, there is a correlation between the increase in vitamin D and the outdoor exercises.
