Abstract (EN)
The religious buildings of Islamic Religion are mosques. The mosques aresacred places where Muslims worship together. In Koran, the holy book ofIslamıc Religion, there is no instruction or rule on designing mosques. Bycenturies; Muslim communities, design their mosques according to therequirements of worshiping and on the direction of necessities for communityand religion and they are still continuing to do soâ¦Turkey has a quite important heritage on mosque architecture. By 20thcentury, different tendencies have come into existence on mosque architecturein dıfferent Islamıc countries, and attempts in searching of modern designstyles have taken place. In Turkey only a few of modern mosque have beendesigned still, mosque architecture haven?t been gone far away fromtraditional style, so the mosques have continued been designed in ClassicalOttoman Mosque Style of 16th century mostly.In this theses; it is searched thoroughly why the tendency of ClassicalOttoman Mosque Style is still continuing today in Turkey and it is tried todetermine the factors which shapes and guides todays mosque architecture.Setting out with these factors. The research have been carried out inidentifying the users preferences and users satisfaction on the matter andwhat kind of mosques people like to worship in and what kind of mosquedesign (modern or classic) is satisfying people both in functional and aestheticaspects.In this study, firstly the definitions and aim of usage of parts at traditionalMosques is stated. The changes on mosque architecture in the course ofhistory are determined and the point that mosque architecture has come isexamined. Furthermore, it is investigated how the characteristic arhitecturalelements belonging to traditional mosques such as mihrap, minber, minaretare used in mosques constructed in modern or classical style on institutionaland public area in Ankara.As a consequence, the lacking issues in todays mosque architecture, thefactors that should be done or shoulnd?t be done in mosque designs, thepositive and negative effects of views and value judgements of public onmosque designs, the desıres and preferences of socity have been tried toreveal.Furthermore, the difficulties that have been encountered at modern mosquedesign and the role of the architect on this process have also been tried todefined.
