In the 20th century sculpture visual and intellectual changes

In this study, via of the relations with the statue in the 20th century art movements, examined over the most prominent examples, the art of sculpture in the process of development, the changes had been discussed.From the first era until the end of the 19th century, sculpture was able to being within the boundaries set by religion and social institutions. With the onset of Modernism recovered from the boundaries of sculpture. Modernism begins with Rodin at sculpture. In this process, sculpture has been able to question its own existence as an independent function is no longer represented. As to Marcel Duchamp and the ready-mades, concept got ahead of the form. In the first part, the definition of modernism, its influence on sculpture and emerging movements are discussed, together with the relationship based on this process in regard with the changes in sculpture.With Postmodernist process started after the Second World War, sculpture got ahead of its own classical definitions of the previous periods and has exceeded the boundaries between other branches of art. European lost its former superiority in the field of art with that the economic superiority was captured by the America. Abstract Expressionism which developed in this environment and then other movements arised to reaction to this movement have been effective in the development process of the sculpture. This process is also the process that further questioned what the sculpture is. In the second and thirth parts together with the definition of postmodernism, after the Second World War and especially after 1960s, changes in artistic movements and the effects of these changes to the sculpture examined through the model works.
