Feminist discourse in post-2000 Turkish theater

This study aims to trace the traces of feminist discourse in post-2000 Turkish theater. Feminist thought draws attention to the inequalities of women within the patriarchal system and offers an alternative perspective against this structure. In this context, an art form such as theater, which makes social issues visible on stage, constitutes an important field for the transmission of feminist discourse. By bringing the oppression, discrimination and inequalities experienced by women to the stage, feminist theater aims to both raise awareness and contribute to the representation of women as subjects. After 2000, with the diversification and increased visibility of women's movements in Turkey, the representation of women in theater has strengthened, and female characters have started to be staged in a more free, resistant and questioning manner. This thesis examines how feminist discourse is reflected in the theater through specific plays and authors, and analyzes the representation of female characters. In the analysis, it is observed that feminist theater brings not only women's problems but also gender inequality and patriarchal structure to the stage with a critical language. Furthermore, the interaction of feminist discourse with the audience through different representations was also evaluated. In conclusion, feminist discourse in post-2000 Turkish theater emerges as an orientation that contributes not only to the representation of women but also to the questioning of the social structure.
