Abstract (EN)

The discussion of this thesis is the representation of boys as a character in the Turkish art cinema narratives after the year 2000. Whether the characters are presented in a realistic way as a task expected from the art films is examined in this study. In order to create a framework in the context of art cinema, nominees for Turkish film festivals that offers competition categories are taken into consideration. What is looked for in the films is a realistic attitude that is expected to be coherent with the ideas that are grounded on the critical approaches of the masculinity studies. For this reason, masculinity studies in Turkey are used in order to reveal the sociocultural circumstances that a boy is in. A framework which puts family, education and community to its center is formed and patterns that a boy is exposed in Turkish culture are described. Narratives from Turkish art cinema after the year 2000 in which the main character is a boy are analyzed in accordance with these descriptions. Keywords: Turkish cinema, Masculinity, Boys
