Self-orientalism in Turkish movies that awarded in Europe after the year 2000

Orientalism refers to the body of non-malevolent studies and researches mostly done by the Western world on the East until Edward Said gives it an ideological meaning. In hundreds of years of work, the Orient has come to the fore with its exoticism, fascination, and extraordinary character. When it comes to 1978, Said revisits these works on East and puts forward the idea that all the features attributed to the East by Orientalists were created for the legitimate conquest of the East. According to him, Orientalism is the exploration method of colonialism. In the centuries, it developed its relations with social, economic, and political theories and turned the East into a fictional land where serious money-making investments can make from the very beginning. There is no longer a need for a Westerner for the practice of "Orientalizing the East" systematically carried out at the current point. Some Eastern intellectuals who internalize Orientalism, whether consciously or unconsciously, contribute to the intellectual treasure created by this method directed to the people they live with the same root. Continuing its effectiveness today, Orientalism has created much representation by using its instruments that penetrate the general culture, both directly and internally. Artistic disciplines suchlike as cinema are at the top of the mentioned fields. As a device of colonialist thought, cinema has made considerable contributions to the teaching of fictional Eastern introspection and has taken the task of bringing the East to the feet of the west audience. Successfully carrying an ideological discourse that implies that the conquered colonial lands were "only 35mm away" the films attracted considerable attention among Western audiences. The emerging interest and relevance were turned into an expectation and "qualifying criteria" by Western art authorities such as galleries, museums, or film festivals for the Eastern artists who sent their works to them. Numerous Eastern intellectuals who did not see any trouble in internalizing Orientalism or who did this without realizing it obeyed these expectations and tried to work with Orientalist motifs. With this study, the author used an Orientalism reading under Edward Said to examine the Turkish films that were awarded in major film festivals in Europe after 2000.
