After 2000, the representation of the other films in Turkey: "Majority, Beyond the Hill, Waiting for the Clouds" for film analysis

Recently, the concept of other has been included in many different areas as a popular approach. Cinema gives place to different appearances of the other as a popular mass medium. While embracing the other, it is affected by the dynamics of society and actually becomes the mirror of society. In this respect, the aim of the study is to evaluate the relationship of cinema and other on the basis of all these formations. It was tried to reveal the ways the different ethnic groups, which are perceived as the other in society and are subjected to discrimination as us and them, show themselves in cinema. The concept of the other was examined within the context of national state and national identity. Along with conceptual approaches concerning the concept of other; the relationship of the phenomenon of nation-state and identity with the other has been discussed. Because the formation of national state in Turkey is considered a continuation of the reform movements which started during the period of stagnation in the Ottoman Empire and the rising nationalism vision, they were embraced together in terms of integrity. The study addressed the place of minorities and different ethnic identities in Turkey in the recently formed nation-state. Representations of the other in previous period movies were examined for the purpose of understanding the change of the concept of the other in the Turkish cinema after the 2000s. The study examines the problematic about how and to what extent the position of the other in the Turkish cinema has been changed after the 2000s, using qualitative content analysis with example movies.
